15 Mistakes Successful Leaders Know to Avoid

Richard Branson's 8 Keys Happiness and Success

20 Albert Einstein quotes that will remind us to never give up in life

Leaders who affirm their team's strengths and potential are rewarded with high performance and overall success. Much of what a business leader does can be boiled down to a handful of important skills. These include tackling workplace issues and problems, setting reasonably high expectations, and understanding how to motivate and manage people while effectively communicating with everyone. Though there is no perfect formula for doing these tasks well, there are definitely practices you should avoid. The most successful leaders strive to develop a positive management style while avoiding negative leadership characteristics. Use this list of “don’ts” to create your own best practices as a successful leader.

It boils down to family, friends, fun, purposeful work and money -- in that order. By nearly any measure, Richard Branson is at the top of the success-o-meter of life. The multibillionaire launched his first business as a teenager. By 20, he had started a mail-order record business and by 22 he was running a chain of record stores. He has since founded a slew of companies and conglomerates, including Virgin Records, Virgin Airlines, Virgin Express, Virgin Mobile, Virgil Hotels, Virgin Cruises and Virgin Galactic. But it’s not just his ability to create entrepreneurial success that sets him apart. Branson seems perpetually set to “happy” mode. When he’s not engaging in some outdoor sport or extreme hobby, he’s spending time with family and friends he truly seems to adore.

We all know him today as the man behind the Theory of Relativity. He was also awarded the Nobel Prize for his explanation of the Photoelectric Effect. Lesser known is he was the husband of his wife Elsa Einstein. But who would have thought that this renowned scientist was once a teenager people assumed didn’t have a bright future. He was a high school dropout and ran away after being drafted in the military. One of his teachers even told him he would not amount to anything. He suffered because the education system stifled his originality and creativity. After college, job hunting was difficult because of the animosity from one of his professors.
